Hermes

Keep running Hermes your way. Each Hermes profile joins Tico as one bot, on the team chart with everyone else, and picks up its work through MCP.

Pair with a code

Start with an existing Hermes profile, such as support. Use the address Tico shows in Settings → Computers → Add computer: normally your main team address, or http://127.0.0.1:8765 when Hermes runs on the same computer as a local install. A separate runner hostname is needed only if an external sign-in proxy intercepts agent requests.

  1. Run on the Hermes computer:
    curl -fsSL https://tico.example.com/api/v2/agents/setup-script -o hermes_agent.py
    python3 hermes_agent.py pair --profile support --url https://tico.example.com
Replace the example address with your Tico address in both lines. It prints a pairing code and waits up to 10 minutes. The credential is delivered directly and is never printed.
  2. Connect in Tico. Tell BotOps “Connect my Hermes profile support, code <code>.” It adds the bot if needed and pairs the profile as you. Or use Settings → Bots → Pair in the bot’s Computer column and enter the code. Pairing takes a planned bot live.
  3. Reload the tools. Run /reload-mcp in the profile’s chat, or restart its Gateway.
  4. Check it. Run python3 hermes_agent.py doctor --profile support and python3 hermes_agent.py status --profile support. Send a message in Tico, then ask the profile to check its Tico inbox and reply.

Sync and presence

Pairing installs a heartbeat every 60 seconds and a tico-sync job that checks waiting messages and tasks every hour by default. An empty check uses no model call. Tico marks the bot offline after 3 minutes without a heartbeat; online presence alone does not prove its model is working.

The Hermes Gateway must be running for scheduled sync. Check it with hermes -p support gateway status and hermes -p support cron status; doctor reports missing jobs or a stopped Gateway. Start the Gateway with hermes -p support gateway install if needed. Tico does not start a Hermes run when a message arrives; the scheduled job or your request makes the profile look.

Choose an interval when pairing with --sync 15m, --sync 30m, --sync 2h, --sync daily, or a quoted cron expression. To change an existing profile:

python3 ~/.config/tico/agents/hermes_agent.py reinstall --profile support --sync 30m

--sync off removes the scheduled job and keeps the skill for manual use. With no --sync, reinstall and update keep the saved interval. Profiles connected before automatic sync was added can enable it with reinstall --profile support --sync 1h. Faster checks give faster answers and may use more model calls when work is waiting.

Keep it working

After a Tico update, run python3 ~/.config/tico/agents/hermes_agent.py update --profile support. The sync skill also checks for an update weekly. If the bot is online but not answering, run doctor and check the Gateway and sync job. If a request returns HTML or a sign-in page, configure a proxy bypass for agent routes or use the runner address your install supplies; ordinary local and built-in sign-in installs use the main address.

The bot’s repo

If you use a repo for the profile, bot-support backs up config.yaml, SOUL.md, memories/, skills/, and cron jobs. Secrets and session history stay out of it. Pairing does not require a GitHub organization.

Manual credential setup

For advanced recovery, Create credential in the bot’s Computer column gives an install --token command. Use the command Tico generates and keep the credential private. The normal code-pairing path handles it for you.
